Aerodynamics of a wing in turbulent bluff body wakes

چکیده

The aerodynamics of a stationary wing in turbulent wake are investigated. Force and velocity measurements used to describe the unsteady flow. Various wakes studied with different dominant frequencies length scales. In contrast pre-stall angles attack, time-averaged lift increases substantially at post-stall attack as interacts von Kármán vortex street experiences temporal variations effective angle attack. At an optimal offset distance from centreline, becomes maximum despite small amplitude oscillations stall can reach 20° coefficient 64 % higher than that freestream. Whereas large fluctuations centreline cause excursions into fully attached separated flows during cycle, small-amplitude location result periodic shedding leading edge vortices. These vortices may produce separation bubbles reattachment near trailing-edge. Vorticity roll-up, strength size increase increasing wavelength period street, which also coincides spanwise scale incident wake, all contribute remarkable lift.

Virtual Origin of Incompressible and Supersonic Turbulent Bluff-Body Wakes

TECHNICAL NOTES are short manuscripts describing new developments or important results of a preliminary nature. These Notes cannot exceed six manuscript pages and three figures; a page of text may be substituted for a figure and vice versa. After informal review by the editors, they may be published within a few months of the date of receipt. Style requirements are the same as for regular contr...

Linear feedback control of bluff body wakes

In this project, linear feedback control is used to modify the dynamics of fluid flows. We focus on two system identification and controller design strategies that target separated wakes behind bluff bodies. In particular, we aim to reduce the form drag and suppress the large fluctuations that typically develop in such wakes and are detrimental to efficiency and safety in a large number of indu...

Scaling Properties and Wave Interactions in Confined Supersonic Turbulent Bluff-Body Wakes

Results are presented from an experimental study that compares the large-scale structure, mean velocities, and scaling properties of confined, supersonic, planar, turbulent, bluff-body wakes at M∞ ≈ 2 and 3 with corresponding results from incompressible wakes. The large-scale structure of incompressible planar turbulent wakes is recovered at downstream locations x where the local relative Mach ...

The Physical Mechanism of Transition in Bluff Body Wakes

The physical nature of the initial transition to three-dimensionality of #ow past a circular cylinder has been the subject of considerable debate in the literature. Of several proposed mechanisms, the possibility of classi"cation as an elliptical instability is re-examined in this article. Detailed Floquet analysis of the transition shows clear evidence of the growth of an elliptic instability ...

Aerodynamics of wind turbine wakes Literature review

This report reviews the available literature on the aerodynamics of wind turbines and wind farms. Firstly, two introductory chapters are devoted to the physics of the flow around a wind turbine and the existing engineering models for blade and wake aerodynamics. The focus of this work is however on the numerical modeling of wakes. The difficulties in solving the Navier-Stokes equations are disc...
